This work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Schoeni Art Gallery,Hong KongYang Jinsong’s Family WarYang Jinsong was born in 1971 in Chongqing City,Yang Jin Song graduated from Sichuan Academy of Arts in 1996,then started teaching there after finishing his master degree. He went to study in Kassel Academy of Fine Arts,Germany from 1999 to 2000,and came back to teaching later on.His artwork has been recognized since mid 1990s in China.Daily News and Two people’s landscape have been finalized for Hundred Years’ Chinese Oil Portrait and New Century—China Youth Oil Painting Exhibition. He has hosted two solo exhibitions in Germany in 2002,and then started to co-operate with Schoeni Gallery afterwards. His paintings have been exhibited all over the world including Italy,Korea,Indonesia,Switzerland,U.S.A and Austria. His new works can be found in Shanghai Gallery of Art.Yang Jinsong loves portraying the theme of family in his artwork. His paintings frequently feature him and his wife,as exemplified in his works Overture and Daily Expression completed in 1998 and 1999,respectively.In these paintings, the couple’s image appears in an alarm clock and in a TV frame, leaning in to each other like Siamese twins. They seem inseparable, but in reality their images are just confined to a fixed space. The backgrounds are filled with the debris of life at home.Daily Expression depicts a chaotic scene, the characters wearing a dumfounded expression on their faces, aiming to show that there is no happiness like that of a fairy tale there. The artist bluntly removes the camouflage over life, speaking to the helpless and embarrassing side of marriage.Huang Liaoyuan, principal of the Modern Art Gallery in Beijing, said of the artist,“Yang Jinsong’s art is a conflict comprised of well-designed idle objects. He uses a fierce and unforgiving battlefield as a metaphor for the warm family environment, likening the silence to a fight.” This remark resonates with the atmosphere rendered here in the two pictures.Yang’s Cat No.3(2003)is his first early work in which he uses a cat as the centerpiece of the work. The house cat depicted in the picture is not one of obedience and friendliness, but instead is one of violence and ostentatiousness and with a reactionary personality,an aggressive cat with wanton recklessness.Yang attempted to bring out the disorder and unseen violence of daily life through his art, manifested through the use of tense relationships. His paintings made viewers question things and reflect on life.
